HISTORY:
"Adore Me" began during my work with Action Hero over two residencies at CounterPULSE. My initial interest was the examination of American pop celebrity explored through the persona of Bruce Springsteen (hence the photo on the right). The second time we worked together, we combined this examination of celebrity with the idea of the "scriptwriter." Who calls the shots? How much does the "actor" actually get to control their actions? This time our celebrity muse was Miley Cyrus. I took the work I did with Action Hero and combined it with the themes I'd been struggling for years to parse out in "to the birds." Was Leda seduced or was she raped? How has the story of this ancient lineage developed into our modern relationship with sexuality and power? This piece is still very new, but I'm excited to keep working on it. (Here is one of my blog entries about my CounterPULSE residency and Bruce Springsteen fascination.) Mia Morris performed an excerpt from the beginning of this at the GPTC Fringe Night in 2014. |
